Help please?

Okay, so I patched my game against my better judgement and now I have major lag... Someone told me to DEP my game and I have not a clue what that means, can anyone here explain? I've tried everything I know how to do including removing my mods folder and cleaning my caches along with defragging my PC but nothing has helped much... I knew I shouldn't have updated!! Thanks EA!

Step 1: go to start and click on "control Panel"

Step 2: click on "security and system" (it may say "security and maintenance" on your computer)

Step 4: Click on "Advanced System Settings"

Step5: click on the tab at the top that says "Advanced" then under "Performance" click on "settings"

Step 6:this will bring up the Performance options, click on the tab that says "Data Execution Prevention", then "add"

Step 7: for this step you need to go to where you install your games, usually in either Program Files or Program Files (x86)...so follow this path C drive>program files (or program files (x86))>Electronic Arts> The sims 3>Game>Bin from the drop down option where it says "look in". Once in "bin" scroll down until you will see these:

Click on all of those that are with the plumbob icon and click "Open" (you may have to do this one at a time). It will take you back to the "data execution prevention screen". Keep clicking "Add" and following steps 6 & 7 until you have all the "plumbob" icons from the base game and any/all EP's you own added to the DEP list.

Example: if you have Ambitions, do everything up to step 7, but instead of going to the sims 3 folder>Game>Bin you will go to the Ambitions folder>Game>Bin:

C drive>program files (or ""(x86))>Electronic Arts>the Sims 3>Ambitions>Game>Bin

Add everything that has the plumbob icon to the list (including the launcher icons), when you have all of the games added to the DEP list, make sure you click "Apply" at the bottom of the DEP list (next to "ok"..."Cancel"..."Apply". As you can see from step 6, they are all going to say Sims 3, or S3Launcher regardless of what EP you've added, so you'll have to keep tabs on which ones you add and which ones you need to add.

It's not as scary as it looks.

I was scared the first time I did it too (I had to do it with Late Night). Once you've done it once or twice, you'll realize it's nothing. The explanation of how to do it is much worse than the actual "doing" it.

That wasn't hard at all lol! It made a world of difference with my graphics but not my lag, a little but not much I'm tempted to re install everything but I really don't want to, if I do I'm not installing the Pets patch... I'm so annoyed right now! I don't know what else to do! Thanks so much for helping, I appreciates it bunches

(if you're scared to try this, and can wait until Monday, I can put a tutorial on this as well. This isn't hard either, but I'm thinking the tutorial would take me a while, and my bf doesn't like me on the computer for long periods of time on the weekends.

It doesn't effect the game at all in that way. It tells your computer that these programs that you add to that DEP list that they are safe to run. If your game crashes or freezes a lot it could be because your computer is thinking the game is an unsafe program running, so you add the game (and the launcher) to the DEP list to help prevent that.

Okay, so that looked easy enough but my brain wants to explode lol, I need to wait for a tutorial with pics lol, baby steps is what I need, I feel really tech challenged right now... In the meantime I'll content myself by making new sims, I've uploaded most of my fave sims to the exchange just in case I end up having to re-install... Why does EA have to go and screw everything up? I guess I might deserve it though since I haven't had any of the issues most players have had and a very smooth game for almost a year now, it just had to catch up with me sooner or later right?

Okay, no prob. I'll get started on it first thing tomorrow!

Maybe I can start it later tonight, especially since I have my game *open and I need to take screenshots in there for the tutorial.

Update: I've discovered another odd thing, all my CC has the little store icon on it instead of the other little symbols... My eyes are crossed I'm so confused lol! I did move Karissa and Dan to a new town and that save is running almost normal, I'm wondering if my save are somehow corrupted... I still want to try the rendering thingy tho, I guess we'll see!

(BTW Dan and Karissa should have a new addition anytime now and then they plan a wedding lol, they are so cute, they've become my fave little family! Oh and they now live in the lake house you recently made, it's perfect for them Brun! )

YAY! I created a new family specifically to play in that house, but I've yet to do it. They are in the house, but I haven't played them yet...too busy with my simself legacy.

I thought I would be able to start the tutorial tonight, but my daughter decided differently for me.

I hope it works well for you! I'm going to Oregon for Thanksgiving, and I haven't decided if I'm bringing our laptop with us or not yet. Part of me wants to, but the other part thinks my bf will think I'm more interested in being online than being with his family.

BUT

If I could figure a way to set up our laptop in our car securely, I could play some movies for my daughter on the way back home on Saturday (she'll probably sleep on the way there tonight), so that would be handy. She didn't handle the trip well the last time we went...

Let me know how it goes. If I take the laptop and can get online, I'll check in. If not, I'll check Saturday night when I get home.

Well, plans fell through. Car decided this for us. It's dead. We think it's the alternator, so I'll be on and off tonight and tomorrow if you need help with this, or if you have any questions.

My game doesn't have any lag in it. However, there is many glitches that patches can create. With Error Code 16 to the cc objects glitch. However, some people can not play it because they do not have a good enough computer.
