Home-maker career
Someone on the officals thought of this job idea because she was sick of her sims who stay home being unemployed.
i think you should be able to go to city hall and register as a homemaker.
some of the added jobs for this would be picking the children up from school rather than getting the school bus, having to restock the fridge the sim auto cooking around 5pm.
the sims doing ironing (only home makers do it)
negative moodlets for an unclean house (which already happens) but the home maker will automatically go to clean these things.
could add pay groups round town so mothers can meet with their toddlers and have coffee while the toddlers interact
and the ability to make baked goods cakes etc mmmm
now im aware not everyone will want to be a home maker so please note thats whi i said you would have to register!!

Re: Home-maker career
But don't you play the homemaker career if you don't have a sim get a job? I don't understand why this would be a career option...since the way I see it is if you have a sim family and have one family member stay home, then they are already the "homemaker" (at least that's what I have my stay home simmies do--take care of kids, clean, cook etc.)
I like the additions of ironing, and baking..and even adding play dates, but I don't think this should be considered a paid "career" since they wouldn't get paid to do this. I know I do all this stuff at home (IRL) and no one has paid me to do it. (not that that wouldn't be nice)
Unless they mean more like they get "unemployment" wages, which doesn't make sense to me since you don't just get unemployment wages just for staying home to be a "homemaker".
There are good ideas within the original idea, but the idea that a homemaker would be a paid career seems a little silly (and easy) to me. Plus I think some of the things they could do (such as ironing and baking) could be added to the stuff a daycare provider would do in their job description.

Re: Home-maker career
It's kind of the same way in real life. You can do all of the things that a homemaker does and, no matter how many responsibilities it entails and how difficult or respectable it may be, the government won't recognize it as employment. There has to be some sort of taxable income involved for it to be considered employment.
Anyway, like bsg said, you can still do it in The Sims regardless of whether or not it's considered a career. There just won't be text anywhere that mentions it, but that text is really insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The game text says my Sim is an International Super Spy, but I never see her International Super Spying.

The game text says my Sim is an International Super Spy, but I never see her International Super Spying! OMG this made me laugh!! So true!!
I think it would be cool if our sims could unlock special rewards or something for being a homemaker, not that we get anything special IRL but it would be nice for our sims...
Oh and I want a vacuum cleaner!!

I want a vacuum cleaner too! I've wanted one since Sims 2.
Anne--your thread prompted me to make a sim I called "Susie Homemaker".
She's on my blog if you want to see her.
